Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has announced a talent hunt showcase. The talent hunt showcase is called the Back2Base programme and it's designed to unearth new talents. John Obi Mikel has not restricted the showcase to football alone as it also covers basketball and tennis.


Ex-Chelsea and Stoke City midfielder John Obi Mikel wants to aid the path to stardom for young athletes. The maiden edition of the Back2Base programmewill take place at Sports Centre, University of Lagos in Lagos State from Thursday, June 9, 2022 through to Saturday, June 11, 2022.

On the Back2Base initiative, Mikel said it gives young athletes to showcase their talents in sports such as football, tennis and basketball. He added that outstanding athletes would be rewarded with cash gifts.
John Obi Mikel started his career at an academy in Jos in the North Central part of Nigeria and he went to enjoy a stellar career. The best spell of his career was at Chelsea in the Premier League. He won a lot of trophies during his time at Chelsea including the Champions League title at the end of the 2011/12 season.Mikel played 120 minutes as Chelsea beat Bayern Munich at their home stadium on penalties after the two teams scored one goal each. Thanks to the penalty shootout win, the midfielder became the third Nigerian to win the Champions League and the first to win it in almost two decades. KanuNwankwo and Finidi George are the other Nigerian winners of Champions League as part of the Ajax Amsterdam team that beat AC Milan 1-0 in the 1995 final to win the competition.
Mikel won the Premier League title, the FA Cup title and the Carabao Cup title during his time at Chelsea in addition to the Champions League title. Also, he represented Nigeria at the World Cup tournament and at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
