StorySergino Dest’s agent dismisses Barcelona transfer talk

The agent of Sergino Dest has stressed that Barcelona have not reached a transfer agreement to sign the United States international from Ajax. The 19-year-old has enjoyed an impressive debut season with Ajax and his progress has caught the eye of elite European clubs including the Blaugrana and Bayern Munich.

Earlier this month, a report from Veronica Inside claimed that the Blaugrana had finalised a deal to sign the right-back and an announcement could be made shortly. This has, however, been dismissed by his representative, who has indicated that the Catalans have not made any contact with either him or Ajax, he told De Telegraaf: “Barcelona has sometimes inquired about Sergiño’s situation, but that was it. There is no concrete interest. Barcelona has not reported to me and not to Ajax.”

The Spanish champions currently have Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto as the frontline choices for the right-back position but the former has been tipped to head through the exit door this summer. The Portuguese has become frustrated with the regular rotation with Roberto and he has recently declined a contract extension beyond June 2022 to push for a departure.

Premier League giants Manchester City have been touted as the favourites to land his signature and it remains to be seen whether they meet the transfer demands of the Blaugrana. Meanwhile, Dest was the subject of interest from Bayern during the winter transfer window and they came up with an offer which fell short of Ajax’s £27m price tag.

The German giants could return for the Dutch-born star during the summer and there could be a potential bidding battle on the hands, should the Blaugrana join the hunt. Bayern are currently at the top of the Bundesliga table with a four-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund. They are scheduled to face Union Berlin away from home when the German top-flight campaign restarts after the coronavirus shutdown.
