MIKEL WANTS STOKE CITY STAY

Stoke City midfielder John Obi Mikel has revealed that he wants to continue his stay at the club amid rumors that he could be sold in the summer. The midfielder has not been playing as many games as he did when he just joined the club and even though injured and inconsistency have been the reason, it seems as though there’s now more to that.

Having returned from his injury spell, one would expect him to get reinstated back into the team and take his place, but that has not been the case and it has had tongues wagging. With the summer transfer window still approaching, there have been talks that he could be sold by the club, and there have been some clubs that have registered interest in signing the former Nigeria international midfield star.

Sunderland, Wigan Athletic, and Swansea City have all registered interest in the former Chelsea midfielder and even though there has not been any official bid submitted by any of the clubs, the rumors have not stopped swirling and that could also change in the coming weeks. The club’s manager was asked if there was any plan to let go of the midfielder, but he did not give out a detailed response, claiming that he did not have any information to give out.

However, Mikel himself has declared that he would love to continue at the club and thinks that he still has more to offer at the top level. He says there have not been discussions with the club about any new contract, but he is not in a rush. He also said the club, and not him, will have to decide whether or not he is going to be offered a new contract anytime soon.

Mikel will want his contract situation at the club to be sorted as soon as possible before the summer transfer window opens next month.

HAZARD IS A LAZY TRAINER – MIKEL

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has revealed that his ex-teammate Eden Hazard is always a lazy player on the training ground and did not take training sessions seriously. While the Nigerian international midfielder claims that it is the truth, a lot of people may argue against his statement given how good Hazard was at Chelsea.

During his time in England playing for the Blues, Hazard was a brilliant forward and an exceptional attacking threat which saw him become one of the most feared Forwards in the English Premier League, and also one of the best players in the world at the time.
However, while a lot of Chelsea fans would almost immediately disagree with this latest comment, Mikel’s statement could be backed up by the fact that the winger has not lived up to the hype that surrounded him before sealing his big-money transfer to Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The Belgian winger left Stamford Bridge under controversial circumstances after he openly declared that his time at Chelsea was over. The Blues players and staff all asked him to spend at least one more year at Stamford Bridge, but he had already had his mind made up and parted ways with the club.

In a recent interview by Mikel with Sky, the current Stoke City midfielder explained that while Hazard was the best player at Chelsea, he was a very lazy player in training and did not make enough attempts to be better than he was.

Mikel said that the Belgian would not train well enough and would instead play around on the training ground telling people how good he is instead of actually showing it.
According to Mikel, Hazard had everything needed to win the Ballon d’Or but he didn’t push himself hard enough to win it.

OPINION: MIKEL ENDURING A CHALLENGING SEASON AT CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB STOKE

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is not having the season he was expecting when he chose to sign for English championship club Stoke City last summer and has endured a mixed campaign so far. The Nigerian midfielder was signed by Stoke to add more flair and stealth to the midfield department but he has reportedly fallen short of the demands that were set by the club upon his decision to put pen to paper on a contract at the club.

In their most recent match in the league, Stoke suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of Luton Town last Saturday at the Bet365 Stadium and Mikel was on the pitch. The former Nigeria international midfielder and captain was making his 23rd appearance for Stoke City since signing for the Potters as a free agent last summer.

Although his cameo appearance against Luton was a little bit encouraging, given that he came off the bench and changed the tempo of the game, he still has not lived up to expectations and as such, is still facing a subtle challenge to cement himself as a starting midfielder. On the afternoon, after coming off the bench, Mikel would go on to make up to two tackles (both successful), while he also helped at the back by making one clearance and winning an aerial duel.

Nick Powell scored the first goal for Luton after 21 minutes and struck a second goal to complete his brace just a little over an hour. Steven Fletcher then took the match further beyond Stoke City’s reach by scoring the third and final goal of the game to compound the home team’s miseries this season.

After the match, Mikel spoke in a post-match reaction interview and said he knows he can do better for the team and will continue to work hard to be a better player for his club.

Frank Lampard delivers worrying injury update on Chelsea attacker

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has issued a worrying injury update on Christian Pulisic. The USA international sustained a hamstring injury during the warm-up before the Burnley game last weekend, but he was fancied to make his comeback against Sheffield United. However, Lampard has now revealed that the playmaker has yet to overcome his hamstring concern and he won’t feature in the Blues’ final game before the international break, he told via Chelseafc.com: “Not fit to play, still suffering with his hamstring. He’s not training at the moment. He trained at a low level in midweek and wasn’t comfortable. We have to keep looking for the right solution.”

Pulisic suffered multiple muscular concerns during the previous campaign, but he still managed to register 11 goals and 10 assists from 34 appearances in all competitions. Due to a hamstring problem, his start to the current season was delayed and he has managed only five appearances for the Blues to date. There is no concrete interest. Barcelona has not reported to me and not to Ajax.”
