StoryDROGBA AN INSPIRATION

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba managed to lift the Champions League title in his final year at the club last season.

After spending just over six months at the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, the player is back in the big time of European football with the Turkish club Galatasaray. Drogba was one of the key members of the Champions League triumph last season. The 34-year-old has said that he wants to taste success in the competition once again. Drogba and his teammates will be facing Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the competition.

This is seen as a daunting task for the Turkish club given that Real Madrid are one of the favourites to lift the competition this season.

They have just managed to knock out Manchester United from the last 16 stage. Possessing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, Drogba reckons that Real Madrid will provide a stern test to the Turkish club. However, he is confident that they can overcome one of the favourites if they perform to their very best.

Due to their four-point advantage in the league, Galatasaray will also have to focus on the domestic competitions as well unlike Real Madrid who have no chance of winning the title this season.

"It's a big pleasure to play in the Champions League. To hear that music makes me excited. I want to win the cup and live those emotions again. Our faith brought us to this level. I have moved one step forward in my football career," said Drogba. This tie will also see Drogba come up against his former manager José Mourinho, who is held in high regard by the Ivorian. Mourinho recently stated that he would put Drogba as one of his favourite players of all time. Drogba has just one goal in five appearances signing for the club in January.
