StoryJohn Obi Mikel has not made a significant impact in Tianjin TEDA

The Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel completed his move from Chelsea to Tianjin TEDA on January 6 of 2017 as the 29 year old player decided to continue his playing career by performing in China and ending his 10 year long stay in the Premier League.

Tianjin TEDA is an Asian club that competes in the Chinese Super League but despite having competed in the top tier league for over 10 years, they have never managed to actually win it and never been able to become the champions.

This is one of the reasons of why Tianjin TEDA has recently opted to sign a number of players from around the world including: MalickEvouna from the Egyptian Premier League, NemanjaGudelj from Ajax and John Obi Mikel from the English Premier League, just to name a few of the more recent signings that Tianjin TEDA has made.

The Chinese club wants to become the champions of the Chinese Super League and it’s why their transfer activities have been so abundant in recent times.

When John Obi Mikel signed his contract with Tianjin TEDA, he became one of the best paid footballers in the world as the Nigerian midfielder penned a 3 year long deal with the Chinese club that ensures his salary of around £140,000 per week.

Despite all of these recent signings from Tianjin TEDA, they have lost all of their pre-season friendly and training camp matches that they have played. The South Korean team Gyeongju Citizens defeated them 2-1 and St.Pauli, Dinamo Bucuresti, Dynamo Kiev are some of the other teams that have also managed to recently overcome Tianjin TEDA.

Upon arriving to Tianjin TEDA, John Obi Mikel was named as the new captain of the club and his impact has not really been felt as the team has consistently been experiencing defeats and this string of successive losses have to end if they want to be in a good form before Tianjin TEDA’s opening Chinese Super League match which is scheduled to kick-off on March 4 as they face-off with Shandong Luneng.
